We all struggle at times with situations that affect our ability to experience contentment and feel at peace with ourselves and in our relationships. Solving problems can seem overwhelming and when friends and family aren't enough, you may want an objective perspective. I believe in each person's potential to make positive changes that lead to a more satisfying life. I offer you a space to come as you are and a place where you will be fully accepted and affirmed. As a trauma-informed provider, I am attentive to each person’s past and how this will shape our work together. Throughout my years in the mental health fields, I have spent time as a hospice social worker, a counselor in an employee and student assistance program, and as a mental health therapist serving diverse populations in schools for the past several years. I have experience treating children’s symptoms associated with emotional and behavioral concerns including ADHD, ODD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and various life adjustments. When working with children, I believe in getting at a child’s level, understanding, and trying out what it's like to think the way they think. I use play therapy as my primary clinical approach when working with children because their play is their unique way of communicating and how they process their world and their troubles.
I have received training in play therapy techniques including sand tray, family play therapy, and trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also utilize CBT and Family Systems Theory when working with children, adolescents, and families.

I view therapy as a journey. The path on this journey of life is winding with many detours, and it can be difficult to navigate on our own. The therapy hour is time carved out just for the client; it’s a safe place with no shame, where people can give voice to their stories. It is my privilege to come alongside people on this journey to wholeness. I feel especially equipped to help people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, self-esteem, and issues with family-of-origin, spirituality, and relationships. Having two children adopted from Korea, both of whom have their own special needs, has given me experience with and insight into living with adoption, autism, racism, chronic illness, and several mental health issues. I love spending time with my husband, our two adult sons, and our two dogs.

Before becoming a therapist, I was a teacher with over 15 years of experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. I desire to welcome all people into a safe and supportive environment to experience connection and hope. The journey is very painful, and I am honored to support families learning to cope with addiction, grief, separation, and stepfamily challenges. I commonly work with young people and adults who love someone struggling with addiction, are grieving after a loss, are anxious, depressed, or suffering from PTSD, a difficult childhood, trauma, and other life transitions. I also enjoy working with couples looking to reconnect.
My practice is centered around EMDR, Internal Family Systems and trauma-informed narrative therapy. I also offer EMDR intensives for those interested in a different approach. My practice is Roseroot Counseling and I enjoy sharing space and collaboration with New Hope Healing.
Anxiety, life transitions, trauma and grief
Telehealth only
I am the original founder of New Hope. In 2008, I started the practice with the mission of meeting people where they are with the love that God offers to each of us. In January of 2024, I semi-retired to begin a new chapter in my life as I care for my aging father. Before this transition, I passed the torch to Jen Haidar, who continues to support the original mission for New Hope. I now hold an advisory role at New Hope Healing to share my passion for people and my wisdom with the current team.
In addition to supporting New Hope Healing, I am looking forward to finally having the time I need to begin the book I have been planning for almost 20 years, and to further explore digital art and painting, a medium I discovered during the pandemic that has become one of my favorite ways to de-stress.
I believe every person matters and is valuable. Before becoming the Office Manager for New Hope, I taught kindergarten for two years in the Kansas City area. I then was a stay-at-home mom for 8 years for my son and daughter. Once both of my kids were attending school, my journey at New Hope began! I handle all of the initial scheduling tasks as well as billing and insurance for each client we see. My goal is to help each client and therapist feel welcomed, wanted, and respected. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, traveling, and being outdoors as much as possible when the weather isn’t too cold.
